Another month, another Chancellor. The Tories seem to get through Chancellors as if they are trying to put together a calendar that nobody wants – one for each month! Wonder who will be running the country this time next week?

This Tory circus needs to end, because they’re destroying our country and it’s hardworking people, who really face the consequences and will end up paying for it. Mortgages up. Prices up. Bills up. More and more of the public’s hard-earned money being spent on the basics, while the Conservative Party proposes bigger bonuses and tax-cuts for wealthy bankers.

Never has an administration been so disconnected from the country it governs. New Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt now speaks of “slimming down” departmental budgets, signalling austerity 2.0. What have the people of this country done to deserve this? High time this Government listened to the general public and stepped aside.

The good people of Slough want to see their taxes pay for a world-class health service and an effective police force to deal with the scourge of drugs and knife crime. Instead, the Tories want you to pay off their economic mistakes. Sadly, the damage has been done. This is a Tory crisis, made in Downing Street and paid for by working people.

Twelve years of trickle-down economics and austerity have done nothing but lead to decline and misery. Change is needed, and the Labour Party can deliver it. As outlined by Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves, Keir Starmer has a credible, costed plan for our economy, which will see lower bills, better jobs, economic growth, while tackling the climate crisis. Compare and contrast. This isn’t the Tory politics of stagnation and inaction. This is politics of hope and a brighter, fairer future.
