Tan Dhesi MP for Slough
Curtains are rapidly closing on the ‘Boris Johnson Show’, but a new circus is just beginning. Over coming weeks a star-studded cast of Conservative collaborators, pretending they have nothing to do with the current mess, will put arguments across to Tory MPs and members as to why they should become Prime Minister.
What’s clear, however, is rather than being a serious drama, we’re getting slapstick comedy. Evidently, Tories are intent on losing any semblance of a reputation for economic competence by promising tax cuts worth more than the entire NHS budget! It doesn’t take an economics degree from Oxford to work out it’s fantasy.
Candidates are engaged in a race to the bottom of classic, bread and butter Conservative policies: who can cut as much as possible from the national budget, so our public services are as non-functional as possible. Back in the real world, millions across Britain are struggling to pay their bills, rent and food. Public services are on their knees and the economy is stagnating.
Our country can’t bear more years of Tory leadership. We need a clean slate and new direction – only a Labour Government can deliver that.
