As a member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, it’s an honour to be the UK delegate at the 65th Annual Session – this year in London.
Amongst other meetings, within the Political Committee, we were given a very frank and fascinating perspective by Professor Michael Clarke of NATO’s changing transatlantic relations, American Jacksonian nationalism and the rules-based international order.
In the Q&A session, I pointed out that there were accusations from around the world that some NATO allies had abandoned and sold down the river a strong ally – the Syrian Kurds, who were instrumental in helping us defeat the destructive and racist ISIS.
I asked whether he accepted that allegation and what we can do to restore trust and faith amongst other allies.
