Tan Dhesi MP for Slough
In Parliament, I hosted an event with both Afzal Khan MP and Baroness Warsi on ‘Islamophobia, racism and South Asian solidarity: insights from the US’, with guest speaker Deepa Iyer. Deepa, a South Asian American writer, lawyer, and racial justice advocate spoke about her experiences as an immigrant who moved to Kentucky from Kerala, India when she was twelve.
As mentioned in my speech, it was a much-needed exchange of ideas and experiences from different sides of the Atlantic.
As Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for British Muslims and a member of the APPG for Hate Crime, I will continue to raise the issue of Islamophobia, to ensure all discrimination and hatred is eradicated.
